Montclair NJ Homes for Sale

Glen Ridge

Glen Ridge

Nestled between Montclair on the west and Bloomfield on the east, the small and charming Borough of Glen Ridge is noteworthy for its exceptional school system, consistently ranked among the state’s best in New Jersey Monthly Magazine, as well as its lovely older homes. Just 1.4 square miles it is home to about 8,000 residents. The town’s residents have persistently opposed efforts to bring industry into the town so that Glen Ridge retains the character of a purely residential community with streets that are still lit by its original gas lamps. Ridgewood Avenue, a street that runs the length of the town from north to south, boasts beautiful large homes of every major architectural style including high Victorian, English Tudor, Georgian and Federal Colonials as well as a  smattering of contemporaries and ranches. There is even a Frank Lloyd Wright designed home in the south end of the town.  The small downtown area along Bloomfield Avenue has a post office, banks, the Glen Ridge train station, a restaurant and a few retail shops as well the Town Municipal Building and library. A jitney service carries commuters from both ends of town to and from the centrally located train station. The north end of Glen Ridge borders large, beautiful Brookdale County Park and at the south end Freeman Gardens with it’s abundance of roses is a welcome place to sit and read a book.
